SP80 and Boero YachtCoatings: innovation at the edge of sailing performance
At Boero YachtCoatings, we actively support projects that push the boundaries of performance, technology and research in the marine industry.
This is why we are proud to follow and support SP80, an ambitious sport and technology project focused on breaking the world sailing speed record.
In May 2025, the SP80 team reached 58 knots (108 km/h) during testing — a major milestone confirming the technical robustness and innovative approach behind the project. The official attempts scheduled before summer 2025 were affected by unfavourable weather conditions, but provided valuable insights for further development.
Looking ahead, SP80 is preparing a new record campaign planned for August–December 2026 in Namibia, one of the most suitable locations worldwide for sailing speed records thanks to its stable wind conditions.
The project will also be present as a speaker at key international industry events in Amsterdam, METS Trade and Yacht Racing Forum.
